Not a good start, but honest nonetheless...

I got up early before Fischer's school and ran to Starbuck since we were out of coffee. I spontaneously bought 2 chocolate glazed donuts (one for me, one for Ed). I figured, 5 pts, I can do that. Then on the way home I ended up eating both of them. I was starving, but felt sick by the time I was done. WTH? That was part of my old self creeping up. 10 pts wasted on empty sugar. Sweet. Or rather sour....

Anyway, moving on! It is what it is and now I need to make the rest of the day healthy. I'm making some chili for dinner. I always make my chili with lean ground beef. Cuts out a ton of unnecessary fat. I don't really have a recipe, I just throw in what I have. :)

Here's my recipe:

Chili:
Lean ground beef
1 large onion
3 cloves of garlic (crushed)
1 can light red kidney beans
1 can dark red kidney beans
1 can chili beans
1 big can crush tomatoes
A little marinara sauce
1 can spicy V-8 juice
1 bottle of beer
Any green veggies, dice up really small (zucchini, green pepper)
Chili powder
Cayenne pepper
Cumin
Salt and Pepper

I'm going to make the chili around lunch so that it's been stewing for a while come dinner time. I'll serve it with brown rice instead of crackers.

For lunch I'm going to eat the same salad I had yesterday that I posted. My friend Jenny made that salad for me when I went to her house and I loved it. :)

Hey Jen, why the beer in this chili-recipe? The other ingredients are pretty much alike what I use, except for the beer. While for as far as I know beer contains a load of sugar/calories.
Anyway, I was just wandering. Do whatever you like of course and enjoy the chili! Always a very comforting dish...

Jacoline-I used the beer for flavor. I always notice if it's missing. The alcohol cooks out and the flavor remains. One beer is 3 pts. I'm assuming 1 pt is cooked out and then you have 2 pts left that is spread throughout the chili. So it's not a huge impact on calories. And since I cut out the fatty ground beef, it works. :)

I dunno- I just love the beer undertone in chili.

aha, got it! I've never used beer as a flavor-maker yet, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.
Anyway, I'm making chili today; ever since I read your blog yesterday I can't think of anything else... ;-)
