Trying too hard

Thanks so much for the encouraging comments that some of you left on my last post.  I've been thinking a lot about this journey and why it's different this time.  And I came to the conclusion that there is such a thing as working the program too hard.  Where it becomes so complicated and consuming that it just isn't doable.  And that's where I was.  I've also been comparing this journey to my weight loss journey three years ago and the fact is is that this is a different journey.

I'm going to treat this a new journey and give myself a break.  Not a break from being OP, but a break from demanding so much of myself.  I demand a lot of myself on a daily basis.  I insist on doing a lot, making the most of my time, multi tasking on crack.  But I just need to slow down.  I need to enjoy the plan.  It's a good plan.  And I can do it.

I'm not going to weigh myself except for once a week, on Mondays only.  I will not step on it any other time.  I will love myself and enjoy myself.  I will thank my body daily for what it does do for me.  I'm healthy, strong, and very capable of walking in a place of peace with my body.  I'm going to choose to do this daily.  To give myself the gift of living without hating my body, even when I feel like I'm not myself yet.

Here's my tracker today:

Breakfast:
Luna bar: 4 pts
Grande Mocha: 4 pts

Lunch:
Whole grain quesadilla with leftover chicken stirfry, mozz cheese and spinach: 8 pts
Spinach salad with green beans, feta and dressing: 2 pts

Apple: 1 pt

Dinner:
Salmon burger: 5 pts
Sweet potato: 3 pts
Green beans: 0 pts

Dessert (Ed brought me my favorite icecream)

So Frustrated

The scale is all over the place.  Yesterday it said 170 lbs.  Today it said 174.5 lbs???!!  WTH?  I cannot break the 170's and it's driving me MAD!  I feel myself getting frustrated and mad at myself.  I feel like I'll do good all week and then the last day of the week I eat too much and screw the week up.  I've been increasing my exercise and walked or ran every day this week.  But I just can't get through this plateau.  :(

I have to admit I have not written down everything exactly and I've been slacking on portion control.  I got through phases where it's easy to be OP and then it feels so, so hard.  And the last time I lost weight I was so focused that being OP was truly easy for me.  But I'm just struggling to get back in that zone.  I don't want to feel fat anymore.  I don't want to feel so enslaved to food like I do now.  I just want some consistency and control.  And I know that I have the power to do that for myself.  I just need to focus.  I feel good about my exercise.  I've been really consistent with that and enjoy it.  So I need to come up with a plan.

Last week I tried to divide 5 mini meals into 5 pts a piece.  It worked well the first few days and then there were times when i needed to spend more at one meal and conserve at another and it just messed me up.  That and I can tell that I do better OP when I get sleep.  And Shepherd has been all over the place with sleep lately.  Not that that's an excuse, but that's just where I'm at.

Despite the lack of movement on the scale, I do feel different in my jeans.  They are looser.  So that's a positive.

Here's my tracker so far today:

Breakfast:
Luna: 4 pts
Coffee with cream, sugar: 2 pts

Lunch:
Salmon burger on a whole wheat bun: (8 pts)
Green beans: 2 pts (olive oil)
Potatoes: 4 pts
Sips of coke: 1 pt

So, 21 pts so far.

Dinner will be around 10 pts and then maybe a snack.  I'm going to skip exercise tonight and substitute sleep.  I'm so tired.

Tomorrow I'm planning on running again with the man child.

Thursday, March 12, 2009

172 lbs even this morning on the scale.   At first I stepped on it funny and it said 162 lbs and I nearly flipped.  Then I realized the error and let out a big, deep groan.  Not that I expected to be in the 160's- but man I'm close.  There is a big difference (which makes no sense at all) b/w the 160's and 170's for me.  So being in the 160's will be nice.

I did not run today.  Too much going on.  That and Shepherd was up a lot last night and I was just too tired.  I did, however, get some running shoes.  I know that my cross trainers were not good and after spraining my ankle last summer, I'm getting the right shoes for my feet!  I got a new pair of my faithful Mizuno brand.  And a hydration belt.  I'm going to try and get a long run in this weekend.  5 miles.  That's my goal.  Hopefully I can do that childless.  (Can I Ed?)

I'm bringing some food to the Teacher's Appreciation Breakfast tomorrow for my kid's school and then Shepherd and I are going to the park to run.  4 miles is the plan.

Here's my food tracker today...

Breakfast:
Special K bar: 2 pts
Mocha: 3 pts

Grapes: 1 pt

Dinner:
Chips/salsa: 4 pts
special K bar: 2 pts

Snack:
Special K cereal with skim: 4 pts

Today was good. I'm doing well eating often. I had carpool this morning and after I dropped the load of kids off I took the baby and myself to the park. I jogged 4 miles!! I'm still doing my Jeff Galloway program of walk/running and I can say I'm doing a lot less walking and it feels good! The weather is great and it felt divine to be warm and have sweat pouring down my face.  Love that feeling.

Guess who ran 3 miles?

ME!!!! I decided to stop waiting for a time I could get away alone and I just took the baby and Amelia in the double jogger. It was hard. Very hard. But it felt good to push myself. I took some walk breaks, but I definitely consider this a run! And my kids were great. We ran to our local coffee shop and back. They were entertained by the cars and noise. That and I had my head phones on so.....maybe I didn't hear them. :)

I am loving the time change because they kids are in bed by 7pm and I can still go in the neighborhood and run because it's light out. So I'm looking forward to extending my mileage.

Boone was fun, but fat laden. Luckily I only gained 1 lb. Seriously folks, I was expecting to be UP there. Anyway, I'm back in my groove. I started searching for some fresh inspiration. I found a very cool site that collects weightloss blogs into one list. I spent an hour reading some. I do so well seeing how others do this thing.

I'm trying a new strategy this week. Eat 5 small meals and 2 snacks. I've been eating very small breakfast and lunch and then gorging dinner. Not working for me. So I figured each meal is 5 pts. Each snack is 3 pts. That gives me 31`pt. Then 3 to play around with.

Here's my plan:

Meal:
1 slice whole wheat bread with 1 tbsp peanut butter: 3 pts
Mocha: 3pts

Meal:
Leftover whole wheat spaghetti with mushroom and zucchini marinara.: 5 pts

Meal:
5 pts

Meal:
Beef tenderloin taco: 5 pts (threw a lime marinated beef tenderloin in the crock pot. I'll slice it and we'll make tacos with it)

Meal:
5 pts

APs= +3 (hoping not to use them to booste weight loss)

Boone...

So last time I was here I was shoveling food in my mouth like I'd never eat again.  This trip- I'm determined to stay under control!!  I'm also determined to earn some APs via sledding and walking back up the driveway (which is a mini mountain) and playing Wii. :)

We woke up, threw the kids and bags in the car and were driving by 9am.  That's impressive for three kids people.  Anyway, I planned well and packed healhty snacks.  Luna bars, apples, Diet Lipton White Tea (my new fav), and ff popcorn.  We opted for McDonalds (gag) for lunch and I got a happy meal, along with my kids.  Not horrible- 12 pts.  Much better than the Quarter Pounder for 27 pts or something ridiculous like that.

We got here around 2:30 and was surrounded by snow.  I'm now sitting by the fire with Ed and relaxing.  Our good friends, the Madlams are coming up tomorrow with their kids.  It's going to be a fun weekend.  And it doesn't hurt to be in good company.  I love me some Corrie.

Here's my tracker:

Breakfast:
Luna: 4 pts
Grande Mocha: 4 pts

Lunch:
Happy Meal: 12 pts

Snack:
Apple: 1 pt
Bagel chips: 5 pts
Ww's cookies: 4 pts (I got snacky)

Dinner:
Wild mushroom soup: 4 pts
2 slices whole wheat bread: 2 pts
Spinach salad with lite ranch: 2 pts
Some blue corn chips with hummus while making dinner: 3 pts

Snack:
2 jacks and diet coke: 4 pts

Total: 45 pts

11 Flexies used (that's what there for, right?)

I'm learning that sleep is just an option

And my current life did not come with that feature.

We got the kids to bed at 7 pm last night and then I hopped on the treadmill.  45 mins on a 10 incline!  My butt was zapped.  And I'm really getting into reading on the treadmill.  I read so intently that before I looked up I had already been on the treadmill for 30 mins!  I took a bath and then went downstairs to hang out with Ed.  Some friends of our stopped in and we stayed up late laughing and talking.  It was good.  I ended up staying up until 12am though, and for me these days- it might as well have been 4am.

We are leaving for the mountains tomorrow and I have lots to do today to get us out of town.  I'm mostly caught up on laundry, but I have this terrible OCD habit of having to have a perfectly clean house when I leave town.  I just love coming back to a clean house.  So instead of giving myself a break and letting myself be sloppy, I'm more than likely going to kill myself to get it clean today.  :)  I'm such a good martyr aren't I?

Okay.  I'll post tracker later.  Off to throw a load in the wash...

Monday, March 02, 2009

I've been walking around in a work out halter top that I haven't been able to wear until now.  I was feeling quite okay in it until my husband asked me if he could call me Anna Nicole.  And then he named "them" Orville and Redenbacher.

Guess it's too soon for this top.

I got on the scale today.  175 lbs.  Needless to say I blurted out a curse word.  WTH?  I'm hoping it just has to do with the weekend and sodium and not enough water and all that.  Cause I've been a good girl!!!

It's easy to let the number ruin my day and cause me to say F it and eat crap.  But I won't.  Instead I continued doing what I know and I'm choosing to have faith in the plan.  It's takes a lot of faith in your plan when you're at the beginning.  I've always heard that the hardest weight to lose is the first 10 lbs and the last 10 lbs.  I can relate.

School was cancelled today due to snow.  Such a joke.  Living the south is funny like that.  But I got out and took the kids to the library.  I'm going to do the treadmill again tonight.  I liked the workout I did last night and the time passed quickly while reading.

We're leaving for the mountain house in two days.  I've got lots to do in the way of cleaning and laundry.  I'm going minimal on the packing.  There is washer and dryer there- so why pack so much?  I always pack WAY too much- thinking I'm going to need something and won't have it.  But it never happens and instead the bottom half of all the bags never gets used.

I am excited to go though because we're bringing our friends with us.  We'll have 7 kids there between us!  But it will be a blast and there will be wine poured after bedtime....right Corrie?

456 calories

That's what I burned tonight on the treadmill!  I *had* to read my book Breaking Dawn (the last book of the Twilight saga!!) , so I set the incline on 10 and just had the speed at a slower pace so I wasn't jumping up and down.  I walked on an incline for a full hour and was dripping sweat by the time I was done.  Phew!

It snowed here today and of course I happened to go grocery shopping as all the southerners were stalking up on milk and eggs.  It was a madhouse!  I got all stressed.  Every aisle I went down had 7 people in it and they were NOT nice.  All I wanted was ingredients to make chili and stew.  I never thought looking for diced tomatoes would bring about so much rage.

Anyway, I came home, made a batch of chicken chili and we settled in and watched our winter wonderland out the window.  My kids were wimps and pretty much tuckered out after 30 mins of snow play.  So we all just hung out indoors by the fire and played.  It was a nice afternoon.

Here's my tracker... I was busy today and did not track points.  But I'll just lay it out.

Breakfast:
Luna bar

Lunch:
Tuna fish sandwich on wheat
Spinach salad with homemade blue cheese dressing courtesy of the hubby
1/2 cup of homemade mocha icecream ...again, courtesy of the hubby

***I'm getting the feeling my husband's new found love of cooking is going to cause some temptation for me***

Dinner:
Chicken chili over brown rice

Snack:
Some leftover tuna salad with crackers

I might make myself some hot chocolate here soon.  I'm feel cozy here by the fire with (gasp) all my kids asleep.  Just me, my lap top and my book!  Oh yeah, and my husband play Xbox next to me.

Must caffienate

That's all.  Carry on.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Today was fast paced.

I woke up, got the older kids dressed for school.  Got the little one on the boob.  Got myself dressed and got out the door.  I should buy a bulk supply of my Caramel Nut Brownie Luna bars that I love so much for breakfast because I never have time to sit down and eat.  And I did not eat today until lunch.  Unless you count a mocha, which I do.  So anyway, today was all over the place.

No activity points earned.  But I had planned to take a break today.  Tomorrow I plan to do my usual 4 mile walk.   Saturday I want to make it to a Step class again.  God how I wish I could goto the YMCA during the day and take all the classes I love.  I just don't think Shepherd can wing it yet.  He's a bit high maintenance and it seems like the only babies I see in the Y nursery are like blobs that just sit and stare.  And my little man child needs extra TLC to be happy.  Would it kill the nursery workers to do anything extra besides put them in swings?  Ugh.  But he will be 12 weeks tomorrow which is the age they say you can bring them.  It's worth a try I suppose.  The worst that can happen would be that they come get me.  I guess I could take a few weeks to just get him used to it and expect to never really finish a class.

Anyway, I've had an emotional week.  But what else is new?  I'm proud to say I haven't let it translate into my eating habits, which is a big battle for me.  Like I've said here before, life is stressful and if that's an excuse to blow the plan, then expect to never stay on plan.

Here's my tracker:

Breakfast:
Venti Mocha: 4 pts (didn't finish it)

Lunch:
Turkey and cheese on wheat: 9 pts
Risotto with broccoli: 4 pts
Small square of brownie: 3 pts

Snack:
Apple: 1 pt

Dinner:
Mint Split Pea Soup: 5 pts
Bread, bread and more bread for dippin: 8 pts

Total: 34 pts

Some non scale victories...

I put on a fleece that I could only wear when I was skinny.  It was snug, but wearable snug.  I felt good.  I could not wear this 2 weeks ago.

I took a walk this morning with my little man.  4 miles!  I really love my walks.  I listen to music and just use them as a time to reflect and have some quiet time.  Shepherd loves them and sleeps the whole time.  This is my only quiet time in my day and I love it.  Thank God I can burn calories at the same time.

I have a feeling I'm going to see the 160's next week.  I cannot tell you how good that makes me feel.  This time has been much harder than last.  I don't know if it's because I'm in my 30's now and my metabolism is shot or what.  But it's creeping off slowly.  But, hey, it is coming off, so I can't complain.

Here's my tracker today:

Breakfast:
Luna: 4 pts

Snack:
Mocha: 4 pts

Lunch:
Veg Out Bagel from Einstein's: 11 pts

Snack:
Apple: 1 pts

Dinner:
Probably a Kashi meal: 6 pts

Snack:
ff popcorn: 1 pt

Total: 27 pts  (7 pts to play with)

I earned roughly 2 APs, but I'm not counting them.  I'm thinking I need to utilize the boost to my metabolism.  Obviously I'll eat if I'm hungry, but might as well gain the benefits of it.

So......I'm going to see Twilight AGAIN tonight with my friend Yesenia.  I'm obsessed.  It's okay.

Doesn't my face say it all?? :)  Not quite there, but making progress.  This is at 173.4 lbs.  Size 10/12.

Very tired today but got my cardio in

My husband and I stayed up late talking last night.  It was good, but I'm absolutely zonked today.  I didn't get to get until 1:30am and then of course I was up at 3am, 5am and 7am.  Then up for the day!  Ugh.  I lay down during the baby's first nap, but ended up reading Eclipse (Twilight saga) instead of sleeping.  Why do I do that to myself?  And of course as I type my older kids are back from school and running throughout the house.

Anyway, after Shepherd's morning nap I bundled us up and headed to Starbucks.  Got my mocha and then went to my favorite park to walk.  Got in about 2.5 miles.  I was freezing when I started and then by then end I had stripped my hat and gloves off and zipped down my fleece.  I've been making an effort to do more than 30 mins when I do cardio.  Your body does not tap into that fat burn mode until 30 mins of cardio- so why stop there?  I at least do 45mins- but one hour is ideal.  And it doesn't mean you have to be super intense, just practice some endurance.  I read an article recently that showed almost the same fat burn (different from calories) happens when one walks on the treadmill for 30 mins compared to running.  And you get an even greater fat burn when you take "breaks" or circuit training.  This is why I love Jeff Galloway's method of recovery running.  Run 5 mins, walk 1 min.  Because even though I wouldn't run the whole 3 miles- my body still burn the same amount of fat as the person that did.  Mainly because I had to recover and then get back up to pace.  But it made running so much better!

Anyway, I'm getting my groove back for fitness.  I wish my life was such that I could live at the YMCA like I did.  But the baby is too young to the childcare and I have to be patient.

Morning scale: 173.4 lbs

Tracker:

Breakfast:
Luna bar: 4 pts
Banana: 2 pts

Lunch:
Grilled cheese (2% cheddar on high fiber bread- no butter): 4 pts
Tomato soup: 2 pts

Snack:
Popcorn: 2 pts
Apple: 1 pt

Dinner: Not sure yet.  I'll stay within the points though!  I have 21 pts to play with.

Sunday...

We're playing hookie from church today. I, as usual, was up last night with Shepherd, only Amelia was having a rough night of sleep to. She slept in our bed and woke up periodically screaming. I can't figure out if it was a nightmare or if she was sick. Thankfully she woke up fine today. But all the activity resulted in me letting Ed sleep in and then I ended up napping during Shepherd's morning nap and we just pretty much missed church.

It also resulted in some poor food choices. You know how you're tired and then just start reaching for food when you're hungry. It's hard to think about fixing something when you just want to put something in your mouth. It really doesn't matter if it's a "good" or "bad" food. It just needs to be something. So, it's 12:30pm and I've already eaten 23 pts. But it doesn't mean my day is ruined or I won't be OP. I just need to reign it in and make better choices the rest of the day.

I'm hoping to get a walk in today. Maybe to Octane (our local coffee shop) and back. That's 3 miles. I MAY even try to run there. We'll see. I'm long for spring when the weather is nicer. It's so much easier to run outside in warm weather. I always had an easier time running in the dead of summer than in the winter. I just like working out in the heat.

Anyway, here's my tracker:

Breakfast:
Luna bar: 4 pts

Snack:
Luna bar:4 pts

Lunch:
4 8 inch flour tortillas: 12 pts (ugh)
Guacamoli: 3 pts
Salsa: 0 pts
Diet Lipton Green Tea with Citrus: 0pts

Total so far: 23 pts

This gives me 11 pts for the rest of the day. With some APs I should be good. Maybe something simple like a Lean Cuisine for dinner.

Ready for the weekend...

Well, despite my  lack of sleep last night I was able to score a nap this afternoon courtesy of Edward.  (That's for my Twilight crew)  I then bundled up the little (or big) man and went for a walk.  4 miles!!!!  That's right, I walked 4 miles!  :)  Wow, it felt good.  I wanted to run, but I've never really been able to swing running and the stroller.  I should work on that...

Anyway, going to a friend's house tonight for her birthday.  Girls and drinks.  Good times.

I've got plenty of points and am really looking forward to some childless time.  :)

Tracker:

Breakfast:
1 slice high fiber bread: 0 pt
2 tbsp Naturally Peanut Butter: 3 pts

Lunch:
Kashi Ranchero Beans : 7 pts
Salad: 2 pts
Edemame: 2 pts

Dinner:
Ed's stirfry (turkey sausage, brown rice, zucchini): 7 pts

Later:
Drinks: 10 pts (that's my allowance)

Total: 31 pts (with 3 to spare!)

Don't let two days pass..

Ever since I started exercising two years ago I've always had a rule that I would never let two days go by without exercise.  Today is the day I need some cardio.  I checked out the Y schedule and see there is a Cardio Funk class at 6:30pm.  Oh.  Man.  I haven't been to Cardio Funk for a year I think.  It would be fun to shake my booty.  But that time is right in the middle of our dinner/bedtime routine at home.   So, it looks like I might just hop on the treadmill and do a sincere timed run or do an outside run.  Either way I need to up the cardio.  I need some fat burning!

I got on the scale last night before bed and it said 178.  I freaked.  FREAKED.  I've been 100% OP and then saw that!  Luckily I talked myself down and realized I hadn't had much water and hoped it was water retention.  I was right.  174 lbs this morning.  Phew...

Here's my tracker today:

Breakfast:
Cream of wheat (Ed made it so it's got the "good stuff" -butter and milk): 6 pts
Grande Mocha: 4 pts

Lunch:
Willy's burrito with only chicken, blk beans, lettuce salsa and a little cheese: 10 pts
Chips/salsa: 6 pts (error on the safe side)

Dinner:
Unless Ed gets inspired it'll probably be quesadilla's for the kids and a Lean Cuisine with a fresh veggie for me:  So roughly 7 pts

33 pts !

My Man Child

I'm pretty sure my milk supply is dwindling.....  HA!  These pics were taken at 8 weeks.  He'll be 11 weeks this Friday.  Man, in some ways time has flown by!

Just had to say that the stars aligned and I made it to a Body Sculpt class!  It...was...hard!  I really pushed myself.  I know I'm going to be sore tomorrow, but I'm so happy I went.  :)

174lbs!

Okay, back in my groove....

Saturday I showed up to a Step class at the Y and was thoroughly out of breath by warm up.  Needless to say I earned some serious activity points.  I chose not to use them based on my previous week in Boone and the love affair with White Russians.  Yesterday I  managed a brisk walk with my man child in tow.  About 2 miles.   Again, I did not count them.  I had a weird day of eating yesterday.  We got a burrito after church and it was so massive that I did really eat dinner because I was truly not hungry (gasp).  Instead I ate a bag of ff popcorn at the movies (saw Twilight with some of my favorite chicks).  So I stayed under my points.

It's 4pm today and I've got 19 pts left to use.

I know....has hell frozen over?

I think I'm so into my Twilight books that I'm forgetting to eat.  And I'm only half way kidding...

I'm going to get a walk or dvd in today to earn some more activity points.  Although I'm convinced I should count the man child's constant all night nursing as running 4 miles every day.

I'll be having leftover chili tonight and maybe even get some of my house clean.

Here's my tracker (and I don't mean the vampire that's tracking Bella.  That was for you Jenny and Melanie):

Breakfast:
Luna bar: 4 pts
Grande mocha: 4 pts

Lunch:
Lean Cuisine: 7 pts
Spinach salad with ff dressing: 1 pt

Snack:
Apple: 1 pt

Dinner:
Chili: 7 pts
Crackers: 3 pts

27 pts...

I have 7 pts left for snack em's.

Back in town

Hey there friends (and people who read my blog and I'll never know...or maybe I already suspect)!

I'm back in town and back to the old grind.  Been OP faithfully for two straight days and feeling good.  I made it to a Step class this morning and MAN it kicked my arse!  I don't know how I did that 8 months pregnant.  But I feel more out of shape now.  And I have to say seeing myself in that giant mirror was NOT fun.  But, sobering enough for me to stick to the program.  I got on the scale and it said 175 lbs.  So 1 lb up after my "Boone is for Big Butt" week.  Not too shabby considering what it could have been.

Moving forward...

I went to the library yesterday and they had a book sale.  I got the book "Making the Connection" by Oprah and that Bob Greene guy.  For $1 I figured it would  be a good book to have.  I thumbed through it and saw some pretty good stuff.  Of course, I'm currently being devoured by the Twilight book.  Reading it every chance I get.  Man....I swore I wouldn't read that book series....

Tangent..

Anyway, I'm really wanting to work on myself and why I am so prone toward emotional eating.  I'm good at seeing a challenge and accomplishing it, but I'm not good at getting to root issues.  And this time around I think I need to dig a little deeper.  Especially since my life is sort of at an all time high stress level due to new baby, lack of sleep, financial stress with the economy and such and just a general feeling of anxiety.  All this, of course, is a perfect cocktail for NOT losing weight.  Perfect excuses if I do say so myself.  But since I'm done with excuses, I need to work on ME.  So that's where I'm at.

I do feel like I need cardio more than I'm getting.  Not only for the fat burning benefits, but also for mental benefits- endorphins.   It's just a matter of getting creative and finding that window of time.  But I gotta do it.

Okay, I gotta run.  It's Valentine's Day and I've already allotted my wine points for tonight after the kids are in bed.  Ed and I are going to have a low key movie night!

B is for Boone and my Big Butt

Man, I arrived in Boone and sort of fell apart! I think the stress of last week and getting all three kids together and here in one piece all while being sick was enough to make me pine for chocolate. That, and my mom makes darn good White Russians. And I was a willing drinker. For 14 pts a piece (yes, that's not a typo) though, I should have avoided them. But....they...are....so....good.

I did make a concerted effort to choose healthy foods when we ate out. I mostly ordered salads with grilled chicken, vegetables, fruits, etc. At one place I was craving a cheeseburger so I ordered one and 86'd the fries for fruit. I've also tried to avoid diet sodas. With the high frutose corn syrup (HFCS) and sodium, they just weigh you down. And don't believe the hogwash PR campaign commercials you see on TV defending HFCS. It's crap. Recent studies have shown a link b/w HFCS and weight gain.

Tangent....

Oh yeah...water. Drink it.

Anyway, I definitely over ate all week. I got really depressed about it and frustrated at myself. It peaked one day and my mom noticed. Then she offered to take me shopping. :) I've hesitated buying anything because "I was going to lose the weight." But living in sweats has taken it's toll on me and I just cant do it anymore. So I got some nice transition stuff and I feel "pretty" again. My mom and I were joking that we could get matching tummy tucks once we both lose our weight.

Oh to dream.

I've stumbled upon some good web sites that I'm adding to my "links" section. It's good to hear fresh, new stories of weight loss. I've always been inspired by others and I've sort of forgotten how to be inspired lately as I've been living like a zombie with no sleep. I'm still not sleeping, but perhaps adjusting. And I'm ready to be inspired.

I'll be back in Hotlanta on Thursday and I'm eager to get my arse on my treadmill and get back to business.

Busy!

Hey friends.

I've been busy this week.  Lots going on.  We're leaving for Boone tomorrow and I've spent any and all spare time doing laundry and prepping for packing.  I'm finding that having three kids mean you plan, plan, plan and do things way ahead of time.  Why does having two kids seem suddenly easy now?  It was like a vacation.  Phew! You forget how much time you spent holding a newborn.  Especially one that has reflux and colic and isn't a fan of being set down.  Thankfully he's become friends with his swing.

Oh and did I mention that all of us have colds?  Even the baby?  I swear I cannot wait for the Spring.  I'm tired of colds and germs and being indoors.

Anyway- I've walked on the treadmill twice this week.  I'm very proud of that because I've felt very overwhelmed the last few days and I still didn't let that become an excuse.  And, after I was done I felt so much better.

I've done well on the food front up until today.  I had been staying OP every day and then I got on the scale this morning with no change.  That number discouraged me so much that I let it sabotage my day.  You know the whole "if you feel fat, you'll act fat" thing?  Well, things were great until after lunch.  The Witching Hour as I like to call it.  That 2pm-5pm time where your kids are driving you mad and if you don't keep busy, you'll eat the entire pantry.  Well, that sort of happened to me.  Not horribly, but enough for me to think: wow- how quickly we slip.  The good thing and the thing that makes the difference is that I'm on here telling you all about it.  This confirms my philosophy of thinking like a skinny person.  If you "think" skinny, you'll be skinny.

Moving forward...

On the upside my fabulous neighbor and friend Jen brought us 15 bean soup.  She also made cornbread and salad.  What a girl!  It could not have come at a better time.  With colds and packing, the idea of making dinner is overwhelming.  I had more cornbread that I should have, but all in all it was a healthy meal.  Man, I have a thing for bread....  Mental note.

I'll right my tracker in order to fully confess my sins.....  LOL

There will always be something...

Like I've said many times before, there will always be parties, holidays, get togethers, you name it.  Staying on plan does not mean you avoid these gatherings, nor does it mean you gorge yourself.  It means you plan.  I've had several things this week that could easily have caused me to over do it.  It takes a lot to avoid the appetizer table with the dips, chips, and beautiful array of sugary goodness.  I've got a special place in my heart for real coke.  That alone would be 3 pts for one serving.

Do I starve myself?  No.  I do make a point not to be starving upon arrival.  Then I plan.  One serving of this.  One serving of that.  No grazing.  I was able to do this successfully this weekend.  Instead of coke I had diet coke.  Instead of grazing I planned for a heaping helping of one thing I really want.  And no more.  It worked!  I did not have to avoid the party.  I did not have to avoid food.  Of course, having three kids helps.  You don't have time to hang around and munch because at least one of them have to pee or need you to hold them or want to do something.

I got out and did a mini walk today.  Nothing AP worthy though.

Here's my tracker:

Breakfast:
Alternative bagel with 1 tbsp Naturally More peanut butter and jelly: 4 pts

Lunch:
Pasta with marinara: 7 pts
Salad with ginger dressing: 4 pts

Snack:
Grande Mocha: 4 pts
granola bar: 4pts

Dinner:
Chili with cheese, tortilla chips and sour cream: 10 pts
Wine: 4 pts

Total: 37 pts

Well I used more flexies than I said last night.  But, I still remained OP!  I have about 10 flexies left for the week.  Monday they renew.  So I'm good.

Had a lot of fun at Jenny's house.  Wine, girls, popcorn, laughing so hard you almost pee your pants....what more can you ask for?  Babies were well behaved.  We didn't leave until 12am.  Didn't get home until 12:30am.   Then when I got home I could not get to sleep.  So I pretty much went to bed at 1:30am.  Then up to feed man child at 3:30, 6:30, 7:30 and up for the day.  Wow, I can't believe I'm coherent to even write this.

My dad is taking my older kids tonight for a spend the night.  He and my stepmom spoil them rotten and then wear them out.  The kids are so excited.  I am too.  Ed and I will attempt to get a date night out of it (man child in tow).

Tomorrow I'm going to try (haven't told you this Ed) to get to the Step class at 9:15am.  Need to burn some calories!  We have a friend's going away party that night.  Cook out.  Lots of land minds all around me.  I need some extra pts.

Monday is weigh in!  I'm excited because it looks like I've already lost 2 lbs this week.

Moving and Grooving...

Things are good.  I will be using some flexies tonight since I'm having an unplanned girl's night with some friends.   Gotta reserve some points for wine!!  I had a crappy lunch day.  I ate at Target with Amelia and Shepherd had a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza and one of those nasty ready made pbj's.  It was a hypoglycemic moments and I was shaking and shoving food into my mouth to feel better.

Here's my tracker today:

Breakfast:
Luna bar: 4 pts
Mocha: 4 pts

Lunch:
Personal pan pizza: 12 pts (Amelia ate one- normally 14 pts!)
PBJ:7 pts

Snack:
ff popcorn: 2 pts

Dinner:
Penne pasta with marinara: 7 pts

Girl's Night:
Wine allowance: 9 pts

Total: 45 pts

 (10 flexies used, 20 left)

OH and I got on the scale this morning: 175 lbs!!

Sleepy today...

My man child kept me up last night.  I'm not as bright eyed and busy tailed as I was yesterday.  But, I'm happy to report I've been 100% OP, using NO flex so far this week.   Today I have a playdate with some friends.  There will be a yummy lunch of falafel, salad and then homemade icecream.  I'm going to calculate points for falafel and salad and allow myself 1/2 cup of icecream.  Shouldn't be too bad.  I think 1/2 cup of regular icecream is roughly 5-6 pts.  Of course, we all know a REAL serving is 2 cups....

I'm going to work out today.  Probably my Biggest Loser dvd again or a brisk walk on the treadmill.  Either way- I'm going to earn APs today!  I'm tired as hell, but I'm determined.

Then it's LOST!!!!

The Plan:

Breakfast:
Lite english muffing with 2 tbsp Naturally More peanut butter: 4 pts
Coffee with soy creamer and sugar: 2 pts

Lunch:
Falafel: 8 pts
Salad: 4 pts
Icecream: 6 pts

Snack:
Pear: 1
Popcorn: 1

Dinner:
Whole Wheat pasta with pesto (ed's making it): 7 pts
Salad with ginger dressing: 2 pts

Snack:
Chocolate pudding: 2 pts

Estimated total: 37 pts

Going to earn APs so I don't have to use Flex pts.

Tracker/Plan:

Breakfast:
Sandwich with 1 egg (over medium), 2 slices turkey bacon, 1 oz of mozz cheese and a lite english muffin: 5 pts

Snack:

Lunch:
Thai Coconut Soup: 5 pts
Salad with romaine, cucumbers, carrots, and ginger dressing: 2 pts
Pear: 1 pt

Snack:
Chocolate pudding: 2 pts
Apple: 1 pt

Dinner: Shoot for 11 pts (not sure what yet)

Snack:
ff popcorn: 2 pts
wine: 3 pt

36 pts.  Gotta love those breastfeeding points!

Will try to get a walk or some activity in again.  I'm sore from my cardio yesterday, but it feels good.  There is a Body Sculpt class at 7:30pm.  That would be perfect since the kids go to bed at 7pm.  Just depends on what Shepherd does....  If not I suppose I can do a Power Sculpt tape.

Good Workout

Well, I didn't make it to the sculpt class, but I did choose to get a workout in.  I bought The Biggest Loser Cardio Max and Power Sculpt dvd's a few weeks ago at Target.  From what I can tell by watching Biggest Loser- their workouts are the closest to Total Body and Heat at the Y.  So I nursed Shepherd and put him to bed and quickly ran downstairs to do the workout.   I was able to get a good 30 mins of cardio in and about 15 mins of sculpt.  It was hard, but good.  They have levels on the dvd and I'm confident I'll get up to the highest level soon.  Anyway, I figure I earned roughly 3 APs.

It's amazing how much I was able to do that a year ago.  My body is remembering, but it's tough.  I have my set of 5 and 8 lb dumbells here.  I had to use 5 lbs.  Where at Total Body I got up to using 10 and 12 lbs dumbells.  10 being my "light" weights.  Wow..  I have a ways to go, but I'm excited to get there.

I want to get on my treadmill, but I've lost the magnetic thing you have to put in place to get the machine on.  Ya know the thing you hook to yourself incase you fall off while running?  LOL  So I'm not quite sure how to get it working.  Maybe I need to order another one of those things...

Okay, it's 8:30pm and I need to get to bed so that I can keep up with the 4-5 times I'll be getting up all night.

OH and I stay OP all day.  And I mean every single bite was accounted for!!

I'm back!

Made it to a meeting!

After I posted this morning I realized it was Monday and that I might be able to make my old meeting for the first time in a year.  I did!  I saw my favorite leader and it was so good to be there.  I always benefit so much from meetings.  And a good leader makes ALL the difference.  I'm very excited to see how much I lose this week.

A goal this week for me is to not just eat my Flex points because they are there.  My goal is to plan a treat and use them wisely.  I lost all my weight two years ago eating all my daily, APs and Flex.  But my leader reminded me that if I keep the Flex points at bay as much as I can (except use them if I really want a treat) that I'll see faster weight loss.  And I want to see the 160's soon!

For those wanting the Thai Coconut Soup recipe, here it is.

Tools for success

As a doula I'm familiar with many ways to help a woman cope with labor pain.  And as a woman who just had an unmedicated water birth, I used some of those tools to get me through it.  It was the hardest thing I've done physically (though it's comparable to training for a marathon), but it was so worth it and so rewarding.  One of my favorite tools to use is Guided Imagery.  That's where (at least in childbirth) you visualize something in order to have a positive reaction in your body).  Sometimes we use the image of a rose petal opening to help a woman relax her cervical tissue and let it dilate.   I used hypnobirthing tapes that have guided imagery for weeks prior to my birth to prepare my mind and body.  I also used prayer and meditated on scripture to help me deal with fear.  All of these things helped me have a very gentle, quick waterbirth with no drugs.

So if I had so much success with those tools for childbirth, why not use them for weightloss?  I suppose I did (unknowingly) back in 2006 when I lost 85 lbs after Amelia's birth.  I visualized myself in size 8 jeans come winter time (she was born in April).  Little did I know I'd actually get down to a size 4!  I walked through my day each morning and "rehearsed" staying OP.  I saw myself eating healthy and sticking to the plan.  I prayed a lot about my weight loss and learning to have self control.  And it worked.

So now here I am almost 3 years later and I'm on the same journey back down.  I've got 40 lbs to shed and get rid of.  I'm going to begin this week with a new approach.  I'm going to take whatever minute amount of time I have each morning to rehearse my day.  The best time would probably be Shepherd's 7am nursing.  It's quite and I'm awake.  My goal is to see myself staying OP and enojying foods that are good for me and it being EASY!  I remember 3 years ago thinking that WWs never felt like a diet to me.  Just a way of living.   It was easy to manage my points.  I always planned for "naughty" treats with my flex and APs.  Always.  I had wine, ice cream, burgers, cheese dip, etc.  All the things I love.  Just within reason.

So, today I will stay OP.  And I won't only stay OP, I'll enjoy it and it will be easy.  God says: "For my yoke is easy, my burden is light."  When I rely on God to help me have self control with food I actually have it!  Go figure...  My burden then is light, not heavy.  Just like my food.  J/k

Pulling it together

Well, after a great workout on Friday I fell apart food wise.  The culprit was eating out.  That and birthday cake for Ed's dad.

Ever have those days where you do great and then out of nowhere you inhale points?  My discipline muscle is weak.  I think I just gave in too much in pregnancy and immediate postpartum just for comfort.  Which, we all know is not what food gives us.  Well, maybe initially and then we feel crappy and yuck.

But none of this really matters because excuses are excuses.  The bottom line is that I can choose to half ass my way through this diet and it will take twice as long to lose this weight OR I can just pull it together and get it done!  I'm going for the latter.  I do not want to feel like I feel at this weight.  Just not "me."  Ya know?  I don't want to have to have this "I just had a baby pooch" when my baby is 4 months.  I mean,  I have the loose skin- that's enough for me.

And really I'd like to lose weight so I don't have moments like these anymore....  I went to Target the other day and saw a friend from high school a couple aisles down.  I avoided him like the plague.  I had the baby in the sling and just tried to stay out of the main aisle.  He ended up seeing me and walking right towards me.  I tried to sort of keep walking like I didn't see him and then he said my name.  Ugh.  I HATE seeing people when I'm fat.  And I just saw him (and all my other high school friends I haven't seen in years) at our 10 year reunion two years ago.  And if you follow my blog you know that one of my main motivations for losing the weight was to be in the best shape for my 10 year reunion.  And I was!  So, needless to say, I was a bit embarrassed to see him.  But, in my defense I had a 6 week old baby in a sling.  :)  And I'm sure he didn't think twice about it.  But still...

These are the reason why being over weight is just not worth it.  Constantly thinking about it and feeling so insecure when you see people from your past.  It's just not worth the pieces of cake or the hot wings or the fries.  Ya know?

So...here I am on a Sunday evening preparing myself for this week.  I'm thankful my baby is sleeping better and I feel a bit more rested on a daily basis.  This all helps healthy weight loss. Tomorrow there is a Body Sculpt class at 5:30pm at the YMCA.  We'll see how the day unfolds and if I can get there.  I hope I can.  I'm so excited about a class.  I plan to get out and walk in the morning with Shepherd to get in some cardio.  Then if I get to go to the class that'll be icing on the cake.

Okay...here's to picking myself back up and moving forward.

Making a plan..

I realize I will never resume my workouts if I don't forge ahead and really work it in to my "new" lifestyle.  LOL  Having a third child is my "alternative lifestyle."  So, I've mapped out what classes I could take at the YMCA based on the older kids coming with me and Ed watching little Shepherd.  He can't do the childcare until he's 3 months and even then, it's flu season and I'm just not ready.

Anyway, here's the "schedule:"

Monday
Body Sculpting 5:30pm-6:25pm (take older kids)

Tuesday
Body Sculpting 7:30pm-8:30pm (after kids are in bed- leave at 7pm)

Wednesday
Power Step 5:30pm-6:20pm (take older kids)

Thursday
Heat 6am-7am (don't take kids - too early)

Saturday
Step 9:15-10am (take older kids)

Sunday
Step 9:15-10am (no childcare on Sundays)

Obviously I don't plan on going every day mentioned, but if the stars align and I'm able to do it- I know what class will be on what day.  Making a plan.  Planning is probably the biggest tool I use in weight loss.  Meals, exercise, rest, etc.

Okay, I need to make a shopping list for some meals for the weekend and into next week.  My goal is to prep some this weekend so it makes it easier on the weekdays.  We've been ordering out entirely too much lately and I need to cut the calories and the cash.

FYI- scale said 176lbs this morning!

Cold Sunday

I'm enjoying the cold weather.  I can't stand the heat of Georgia in the summer.  Seems like summer lasts through November here.  Anyway, I bundled the kids up and went for a walk this afternoon.  2 miles!  Feeling much easier to walk fast.

Oh and got on the scale this morning.....177 lbs!!!

I'm on my way back down folks.

My new favorite quote...

I'm reading Bob Harper's (Biggest Loser) book on learning to change your life in relation to health/fitness and I just read a bit that just hit me in the face.

When you kid yourself and pretend that you are happier, slimmer, and more in control of food that you really are, you not only create a big fat obstacle to achieving your goals, you also undermine your confidence in your ability to do so.  (Bob Harper,   Are You Ready?  Take charge, lose weight, get in shape, and change your life forever. )

I read that and thought: THAT IS ME.  All week I've been"on plan," knowing that I've slipped in food here and there and yet "fudged" my points to make myself feel in control.  And I didn't really do it purposely, but rather stayed on plan half heartedly, while telling myself I was truly doing it.  Know what I mean?  It's this kind of stuff that keeps people on a diet for 6 months with no weight loss.  Then they burn out and just give in.

Being honest with yourself is so freaking vital to successful weightloss and health.

In addition to reading Bob's book, I'm also reading Skinny Bitch.  It's a funny, but "in your face" take at dropping the excuses and eating heathy.  Very entertaining and challenging.  All things I need right now to keep me focused.

NSV!!!

That's a "non scale victory" for those who don't know.

I just squeezed my ass into the "tight 10's!"  And they're wearable!!!!

I'm going out to dinner tonight to celebrate a good friend's birthday.  A margarita is in order.

Really, really don't want to post a "before" pic, but...

Morning I gave birth
5 week post partum

I will.  I did it before, I can do it again.  I'm a size 10/12.  I say that because I'm in a loose 12 and 10 tight.  Ugh....

Thursday

I went to the YMCA website and looked at the group fitness schedule to figure out if I should renew my membership.  I wanted to see if there were any classes that I could take that were in the evenings, early mornings or weekends.  The childcare takes kids 3 months and up, so I can't take Shepherd.  But I may be able to sneak away in the evenings with the older kids.  Or even take a Heat class in the early morning.  I so miss the Y.....

Soon.

Here's my tracker today.  No exercise.  Unless you count a fussy baby that I held in the sling all day.

I ran! I ran!

Well....maybe more of a walk/run.

With more walking than running.

BUT STILL!!!!!

Shepherd took a morning nap and Ed was home working and suggested I go run.  I had tried to start up the treadmill and couldn't find the magnetic string thing that starts it up.  THEN I tried to do one of my new Biggest Loser Cardio dvd's and couldn't find an extra outlet to plug in the dvd player.  It was a comedy of errors, but I managed to get some real exercise!

I probably walked 2 miles.  Running was okay, though I felt like my insides might fall out.  Like giving birth all over again.

Baby steps...

I've been tracking well and staying faithful to counting every point.  I remember when I lost all my weight in 2006 I did absolutely nothing other than stay honest with my points and stick to it every day.  No exercise, no carb cutting, nothing else but stay on plan.  And I stayed on plan perfectly for about 6 months straight.  I clearly remember the day I went over my points (and flex) and I cried and felt like I was going to gain it all back in one night.  The next day I went to my meeting and my leader said: "It's not about perfection, it's about progress."  THat stuck with me and gave me a vital tool: learn to fall and stand back up.  Don't throw in the towel over one mistake.  And that was how I continued onto my goal and maintained for a year (before getting pregnant again).

So...I'm doing it again.

Feeling thinner

I'm feeling less "fluffy."  Finally starting to see my stomach go down.  I'm still roughly 179, which is frustrating, but I know the drop will happen soon enough.  I've got a cold, which stinks because Shepherd has been sleeping more and it would be perfect for getting back to exercise.  I have been on a few walks, but nothing to write home about.

Hey friends.

Day 2 on plan...

Holy McMother Pants my son actually slept 3 hours b/w a feeding last night! I feel like I could conquer the world!

So I've been counting points (for real) for two days now. It's been good. I'm feeling up to the journey and getting back into my jeans. I got on the scale and I'm 179.2 lbs! Good bye 180's FOREVER!!! This means I officially have 39 lbs to lose to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. I figure at 2 lbs per week I'll be back to my old self (IF I chose to stay OP faithfully) in 5 months. That's June! So there's my goal folks!

I'll quickly post my tracker for today.  I've been able to have more variety in my diet now.  I'm still staying away from dairy like the plague, but I've introduced wheat products and Shepherd seems okay with that.
